NAIDOC Week

The contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander elders are in the spotlight this week as the Illawarra marks NAIDOC Week.

CI Group CEO, Nicky Sloan had a fantastic day at the Shellharbour City Council #NAIDOC event, celebrating this years theme of 'For Our Elders'.

Uncle G did a wonderful Welcome to Country and invited us all to be cleansed during the smoking ceremony.

Uncle Richard Davis urged us all to stand up and speak out for the #VoiceToParliament. He told the crowd that elders were the people who had fought to bring Aboriginal people what they had today, that "Our elders in our community are my heroes, they are heroes".

Dying to Know Day

Let’s talk about death.

While we all know it will happen one day...it’s often not our favourite subject.

If we face some of our fears and concerns head on, we can have a good death.

Understanding, being prepared, and getting our affairs in order while we are healthy and clear thinking, can remove the stresses from end of life, not only for ourselves, but those we love the most.

Come and join us at our ‘Dying to Know’ Day event and gain the knowledge and skills to enable us to die well.

See the flyer for more details here or contact the Shoalhaven Women’s Health Centre on 02 4421 0730, [email protected] or visit the website.

Free Webinar: Ask me anything about HR law

Human resources law can be complicated. There’s a lot to know, and many organisations don’t have an expert at their disposal.

That’s why we’re staging an Ask Me Anything (AMA) with Maddocks partner Lindy Richardson.

Lindy advises on employment law, with a particular focus on industrial relations, employment, anti-discrimination law, and work health and safety law where it intersects with those matters. She has significant experience in all employment-related litigation, including before the Fair Work Commission, the Federal Court, the Federal Circuit (and Family) Court of Australia and VCAT.

Join ICDA and Lindy for this session and have your questions answered!

Supporting young people to get a sexual health check - This factsheet is for Youth Workers to have the knowledge to support young people around reproductive and sexual health.

Youth workers can be the first point of contact for young people who have questions about sexual health and sexual health checks.

As a youth worker, you can follow these steps to support a young person to access a sexual health service, a youth health clinic, Aboriginal Medical Service, or a GP for a sexual health check. A GP is often the best initial point of contact and encouraging a young person to build a relationship with a GP may help them look after their general health and wellbeing.
